Crawfordville Elementary School celebrated a milestone this week with its first 5th Grade Science Fair under the leadership of Principal Alena Crawford. Students delivered an impressive lineup of experiments.
WCS Chief Academic Officer Priscilla Colvin, Director of School Safety and Student Conduct Coleman Wells, and Public Information Officer Victoria Pope served as judges for the event. Eighteen projects advanced to the final round, each offering a unique look into scientific thinking through hands-on investigation.
Project topics ranged widely—from testing which liquids can create electricity, to exploring the “Mystery Microbe Tour: What’s Hiding in Our Parks?” One student engineered a solar-powered car, another identified the most effective electrical conductors, while others compared brands to determine which popular cup keeps ice frozen the longest, built a functioning solar oven, and even tackled the age-old debate: which paper towel truly is the greatest of all time? The winning answer can be found in the 2025-2026 Science Fair photo album on the Crawfordville Elementary Facebook page.
At the conclusion of judging, three students earned top honors for their exceptional work.
3rd Place went to Eli Cringan for his experiment Potato Power, which explored electricity generation using potatoes.
2nd Place was awarded to Aria Adams for her project Apple Mummies: Secrets of the Ancients, a creative investigation into various preservation techniques.
1st Place was earned by Lulu Fenenbock for her eye-opening experiment How Clean Is Your Cell Phone?, which compared the cleaning effectiveness of various products on cell phones.
Crawfordville Elementary applauds all participating students for their dedication and impressive scientific skills. Congratulations to this year’s winners and to every young scientist who brought their curiosity to the fair.
